We have an English speaking student network, with a National Student Board and a lot of student teams. Because we believe that students can best reach young people and offer them inspiring activities. Become a (flexible) student volunteer and join us!
We are 18 student teams, all based in different cities throughout the Netherlands, that contribute each year to the selected UNICEF cause. We raise awareness as well as funds through different types of events and initiatives, such as pub-quizzes, open discussions/debates with experts, symposiums, challenges, clothing sales, baking sales, etc.
We also collaborate with each other on larger-scale events, in order to bring more human power, ideas, perspectives, and dynamic. This way, the student network represents the idea of collective effort in a creative and innovative form to help the children in need. We do so with passion and conscience in order to obtain the desired outcomes.
Are you a student and do you want to become active for UNICEF? Join one of our student teams or start your own team. This way, you will participate in the best job there is: helping children.
Every year, the student network chooses a UNICEF-project for fundraising. Currently students of the Dutch student network contribute to the project: Climate Smart Villages in Madagascar. An investment in resilient, sustainable villages and a green, opportunity-rich future for children.
Who are our (former) student volunteers and why did they become active team members? Check out Pauline's personal story. Or watch the video below:
We aim to create awareness and raise donations. We hope to see each team organise at least two activities per year. This way new attention is drawn to UNICEF, its projects and its goals. Do you and your team want to organise more activities? Please do so! Feel free to get creative and think of new ways to raise donations. Examples could be a pubquiz, a lecture, communal performances by bands, or a UNICEF run.
A nationwide network of students that offers support, inspiration and possibilities for collaboration. We meet multiple times throughout the academic year during the Kick-off, Student Unite Day, LSO’s (learning & developing workshops) and Student Team Of The Year. These events are organised by the National Student Board, they are a selected group of students that focus on supporting and guiding the entire student volunteer network.
Do you want to work on building a current team or do you want to set one up? Do you have any questions?

“It's amazing how many students find time and power to contribute to UNICEF”
Margarita Meier, Student Coach North
Team Delft has spent several afternoons baking and selling oliebollen, while purchasing them, visitors were also able to create their own Christmas card. Here you can see team Delft's version!
Team Nijmegen organized a full day of fun games in order to entertain Dutch children and raise donations for children in Uganda!
Team Utrecht went out to collect an enormous amount of recyclable bottles! The money that was raised went to TeamUp Uganda.
Each year the student network celebrates Student unite day. It is an opportunity for student volunteers to get to know each other and even speed date with inspiring employees of UNICEF.
Also, students were given the chance to develop their skills and talents.
During this day student volunteers receive the opportunity to see the UNICEF office in The Hague. It is a fun day full of inspiring and fun activities that allow the enormous student network to bond and connect. Each year, at the end of the day, everyone leaves with new friendships, stories and memories.
“It is amazing to work together with so many likeminded individuals, who are motivated to invest their time and energy in helping children. I am proud to represent such an inspiring group!”
Floor Lochten, Youth Representative
Caitlin Moyle, chair Groningen
"Being a volunteer has enhanced my student years hugely. I am given a platform to work towards a common goal with my peers from both my city and throughout the Netherlands. This has given me a sense of belonging while putting in effort towards the yearly project that is bigger than ourselves. I think that this is an extremely important aspect of student life, especially when we are given the space and time to do so. Being the student coordinator of the Groningen team can be challenging but it is an immensely fulfilling position and I feel fortunate to be given this opportunity. Our main goal is to organize awareness and fundraising events throughout the year. We are looking forward to organizing many more events in the future."
Suraya Kosters, chair Eindhoven
"From one day to the other I suddenly became the UNICEF chairwoman of Eindhoven. Suddenly, I had a new community to lean on with a family mindset. A goal given to the chairs is to raise money for a chosen good cause, but the greatest goal the National Board wants us to fulfil is to make memories and have fun. As a chair, you meet and network with the people you normally wouldn’t get to collaborate with such as local companies and the city hall. You create a new view on possibilities in your city. The UNICEF experiences can easily integrate in how you see your career. For example, I am using UNICEF as part of my Honours Programme in Event Management. With all these positive aspects, there come responsibilities. As a chair, you are responsible for the well-being of your members and for making the final decisions. Luckily, I have a motivated Secretary, PR manager, and Treasurer which I am proud of. Being a chair becomes what you make of it. For me, it is fun and daring. It brings me out of my comfort zone and supports my studies, International Business at Fontys, in many ways. Every milestone I achieve as a chair is being celebrated and supported by my team, the National Board, and by myself. For one can surely be proud to be a UNICEF Chair."
Poem
‘IT’S FOR THE CHILDREN!’
Is the phrase that comes to our minds when we do what we do
And what do we do?
We create, explore, brainstorm, we go out in the world with these crazy and funny ideas through which we hope we will touch people’s amygdalas (yes, we’re smart too)
It’s not a job, it’s not an obligation, it’s a sincere desire to make a difference Is it easy and an obstacle-free journey? Quite the opposite if you ask us…
But we found each other and this is why it’s working!
We come from different cultures, we speak different languages, we have different religions, yet we have a similar mindset, and act with both ration and emotion.
We’re up for a challenge, and up for doing our best no matter what, and…We’re definitely not afraid to speak our minds and stand by what we believe in, which is the youth’s potential We believe in ourselves, we believe in our student network and the volunteers’ amazing capabilities, and we believe we are here with a purpose that we mustn’t forget:
Supporting children around the world and making sure they don’t let go of their dreams So if you see us and wonder who we are and why we are here, well…
We are here FOR THE CHILDREN
And you?
“I cannot think of a better project I can devote my free time to. Memories and bonds I have made within the UNICEF student network are ones I will look back on for the rest of my life.”
Demi de Randamie, Student Coach South
